OUR CHURCH HISTORY
With the support of Riverside, now under the leadership of Pastor, Bill Love, the church constructed its first building and held its first worship service in it on April 23, 1978.
In 1979, the mission called Joe Canipe to be their Pastor, he served faithfully for about 18 months.
In 1981, the mission called Hal Wynn to be their Pastor. Pastor Hal began his ministry on the first Sunday in February, 1981. Exactly a year later, on the first Sunday of February, 1982, the mission was constituted as a church under the name Northside Baptist Church with 89 charter members.
In March of 1984 the church constructed the fellowship hall. Movable walls were installed so that the classes could be opened up as a multipurpose/fellowship room. This new facility also included our new office area and a kitchen.
We continued to grow and to provide double worship services to accommodate our people, especially during the winter months. Construction of a new Worship facility began in 1991. In addition to building our 400 seat worship center, this phase of our campus development included a complete parking lot and landscape plan as well. We completed everything debt free on the first Sunday in February 1995.
Renovation began almost immediately transforming the old worship center into our children’s classes and nursery area, which was completed within the year.
We now had plenty of room for worship, but still needed more space for Sunday School classes. Construction of the two-story Education Building began in 2002 and was finished in 2004.
As you can see, we have been quite busy over the years transforming a rather swampy piece of property into a beautiful, safe secure place where people can come to worship and serve the Lord. In an analogous way, what God has done with this property, he has done with his people over the years, transforming our lives by the Gospel and through the ministry of His Spirit among us. We ourselves, “like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ “ (1 Peter 2:4).
To Christ be all the praise and glory!
On May 23, 1976, Walt Hickman began serving as the
first full-time Pastor of Northside Baptist Mission. The
work began as a mission of Riverside Baptist Church
under the direction of Pastor Andy Anderson. The
mission began with a handful of people in the Serendipity Mobile Home Park.
On February 13, 1977, the mission moved to its present
site, meeting in a double-wide trailer on Littleton Road.
